The Olympic Games in Vancouver were an incredible experience for me. The moment I remember the most is when I entered the stadium with the whole Swiss delegation at the opening ceremony, carrying our flag. It was a real honor which I will never forget.
Of course, a gold medal would have made this adventure perfect but in the end, this experience taught me many many things, I’m extremely satisfied that I was able to fight like I did and I can only give a positive summary of these Olympic Games. Like I said, it’s been an incredible journey for me and I want to thank each and everyone who supported me and who believed in me. It was through these Olympics that I had the discipline to seriously take care of myself. Thus, I’m now stronger and healthier, my injury is gone and I’m enjoying every second that I am on the ice.
A year ago, when my body started to feel better, I was hoping to be able to come back to the highest level. My only goal was to compete in Vancouver; I came back for the Olympics and the Olympics only. It was my choice and I have absolutely nothing to regret. This chapter of my life is now behind me and I’m very happy and proud of everything I could realize in my career as a competitive skater. Now it’s time for me to show the rest of the world what I have inside me, it’s time to show the artist in me and I will continue to skate as long as my body allows me to. Figure skating is my life and I want to share that with all of you.
After Vancouver, I had no time to lose cause Anastacia was waiting for me in Zurich to bring down the Hallenstadion! She is an incredible woman and she’s been very inspiring during our time together at Art on Ice. Everytime we performed to In Your Eyes, there was magic going on between us. The whole show and cast was just amazing. Who said we did less in exhibitions than in competition? We saw so many triple axels and quads. Spasibo Evgeni for pushing us to the limit of our sport!
During the next few months I’ll be experiencing another adventure, touring the whole world. Check the schedule as often as possible, new show dates will be added by and by.
At the moment I’m getting ready with Shizuka, the Olympic champion of 2006, for Thin Ice. It’s gonna be really exciting and we’ll bring you some fierce moves! Those beautiful movements of your incredibly artistic hands with fingers full of tenderness and grace. I am not that kind of hysteric fan who screams and gets extremly enthusiastic, but when after 40 min of screaming you finally came back to sign autographs(my autograph too), i realised that your performance got me to change the way i ussually behave, feel and think for a short period of time. As i said last night in my last message, BIG IMPACT. Truely a dream come true! All i feel is gratitude(for the big smile and for the impressions and emotions) and admireing (for the power of your dancing, the depth of your feelings and the strength of your dream). I couldn’t sleep yesterday. The show was amusing, unforgettable… Wow… I liked your performance up to the drums. You were the most inflammatory of course. It is such a unique feeling, when I cry of the performance itself and cry of happiness at the same time and can’t help smiling and crying! Have you ever had a fan from La Republique Tchèque? Probably yes, but I`m from the town from which Tomas Verner originally comes from (Písek, it`s in the south of Czech Republic, it `s quite nice town but I love Prague too and I will live here or in some bigger maybe even foreign city (I will be 18 this year, so maybe in 2 years… and I will be in Prague on 15th April on Kings on Ice, at most I`m looking forward to you).

I leaved my work earlier. Then… Oh my God! Traffic jam!!! Why does show start at 7:00 pm? My first thought is “if only be in time”. Then – “let’s start will be delayed”. And now Ice Palace is seen! There are many policemen around it… No place for parking… 7:15 pm… If only start would be delayed.
I run through many halls… The violin of Edwin Marton… Show has been started! How long time ago? Applause… I enter in arena… It’s full. I sit… It’s necessary to know who has already performed… Maria Mukhortova/Maxim Trankov are on ice. It’s good view. Hurrah! Their performance finishes, it’s said this pair is on ice last time. I ask near girl about previous performance, who was before this pair… Plushenko! Ah, what a pity! It was said less famous sportsmen start show. How many performances have already been? Two. Hurrah, Stéphane didn’t appear yet!!! I’m in time!!!
A presenter announces next performance. It’s Stéphane… Where is my camera? Acrobats, extremals, our good pair Yuko Kavaguti/Alexander Smirnov perform. Johnny Weir who I have known recently for some reasons… Brian Joubert appears suddenly for me. His exhibition is very good… He gave me his autograph five or six years ago when he wasn’t so famous. His performance is very fiery.

Little girl Polina Agaphonova performs. She is good. Wish she will be lucky in big sport! Extremals again… «And now Johnny Weir, Brian Joubert (audience rejoices)… It’s not all! Stéphane Lambiel and Evgeni Plushenko!» Great idea! Four different figure skaters are in one performance! This performance has no meaning, there is no theatricality, implication. It’s cheerful and fiery. It gives a pleasure. Stéphane takes fire ! He is beautiful ! It’s relax in disco style! Others dance wonderfully but Stéphane stands out. Such performances are also neccessary!
Evgeni Plushenko appears in a few performances. His «Malade» impresses, but it finishes show most likely… It’s a pity… It’s not enough…
Thank Evgenu for organization SUCH show, for he invited SUCH people! It’s need to realize such actions more often when there aren’t referees, where famous sportsmen who is able in artistry in addition participate, when they enjoy their skating (and we are acoupled with them) and make happy by easiness after many-many days of practice, sleepless nights, emotional expirience…

Comment decrire ce que j’ai vecu le 6 mars au Hallenstadion? Comment expliquer le fait que j’avais tellement envie de pleurer, sans pouvoir comprendre pourquoi, pendant ton programme sur “In your eyes”? Je ne peux qu’utiliser des vers pris dans des chansons qui me font toujours penser a toi: “Ich sage’s dir viel zu selten, es ist schoen, dass es dich gibt”… “I hear your voice and all the darkness disappears”…
Je viens de lire dans ton message que ta blessure ne te gene plus et j’en suis si heureuse! Malgre tout, prends soin de toi s’il te plait, car les mois a venir seront tres fatiguants pour toi. Alors prends soin de toi et surtout n’oublie jamais que tu es LE MEILLEUR, le seul patineur a avoir compris ce que c’est vraiment le patinage artistique! At first I thought your first program might be more better if there were some more clinging parts,too. But not like lifts but like when you spun Anastacia.
But the program I thought I wanted to watch repeatedly was only yours.I watched it more than 10 times, the others watched only one time on YouTube.
Beyonce’s pro was soooo wonderful as pair,too.
Dances,skating,TRIPLE TOULOOP,SPINS were just matching!! I think your peir programs are different in it’s composition though both of them is very danceable. So,I totally love your both programs.It has a different attraction.I felt the other’s pro are similer in both days.

Hey Stéphane, I wanted to congratulate you on your Thin Ice performances, they were really quite fierce. I don’t want you to feel bad because American audiences really aren’t like the European audiences you are used to, but please know everyone on the internet loves and supports you and we thought you kicked some ass!!
Stéphane, it was so much fun watching you and Shizuka on Thin Ice! I’m sure it was a great challenge for both of you, but you did a fantastic job! I voted for you many times on Friday night and even got my sister to!
I hope you’re enjoying your new life as a “professional skater” and will continue to skate for a long time! I still hope to see you skate live someday. Connecticut is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from my home, but if you come somewhere closer like the Boston area, I’ll do anything possible to be there! Or perhaps someday I’ll visit Europe!!

I have long been waiting for the moment to write you a long letter which could contain the words of thankfulness for that marvelous art you have been making come true on the ice. Those beautiful movements of your incredibly artistic hands with fingers full of tenderness and grace. Those unbelievable pas, your every movement makes millions and millions of women’s hearts live through every instance of your presence on the ice with tremble. I guess tears appear on every single girl’s face when she sees your immortal art. You are more than a figure skater, your talent and the power with which you realize that potential and the will God so mercifully endowed you with makes you a unique artist. You prove by your bright example, by your very persona, the high meaning of the name of the figure skating in French, la patinage artistique.
Nowadays I started to look at many things in life quite differently and this experience is due to figure skating. How it is fascinating to observe that this sport may change lives of thousands, millions of people. stephane you are the best figure skater in the world i thank you up and down for that performance at the olympics when you didnt win t i think i was about as upset and shocked as you were. i get to see you perform in thin ice on sunday the last day . i will be easy to spot considering there will probably be only one 12 year old in the second row sobbing her eyes out when come on to the ice. i consider my self one of your biggest fan I PAST OUT WHEN I HEARD YOU WERE GOING TO BE IN THIN ICE. happy almost birthday and i wish only the very best and your right in all my 12 years i have learned life is too short to complain (you will probably get my letter in the mail containing your well deserved bronze medal)

Thank you for the update, I hope these updates about your life continue though you’re ending your competitive career.
I don’t know if you read these comments, but I feel like I have to let you know how much I’ve appreciated your approach on ice over the years. You are an artist, you remember that figure skating is first and foremost a type of performance art and you haven’t allowed the requirements of the competitions diminish your artistic nature. As dancer, and LOVE that about you, I always have. I think it’s so sad that so many male figure skaters have forgotten the artistry and the beauty in an effort to make the sport seem more masculine, some people don’t realize that that strategy frankly makes the sport more dull. But you, Johnny Weir, and a handful of other male skaters have stuck to the core of this artistic sport, and I appreciate it so much! I hope (and wouldn’t be surprised) if you’ve greatly influenced a future generation of skaters. You, your artistry, were assets to the competition, and I applaud you for it. BRAVO!
I know that your participating in a few figure skating performance venues, but I’m also wondering, what’s next? Will you continue on as a figure skater “performer” or would you like to try film, OR would you even like to try something completely out of the public sphere? I would love it if you could continue as a figure skater for decades, but unfortunately human bodies can’t withstand the jumps etc forever.
I wish you the best Stéphane, I hope you’ll continue to update us. I’ll watch you on “Thin on Ice,” hopefully there’ll be more opportunities to watch you on the television, and if you come down to the West Coast of the USA, maybe I’ll see you live at some point.

As you said, it’s been a great experience for you to compete in Vancouver, and seeing your beautiful smile and magical performances were just amazing. How can we forget the step sequences in Wilhelm Tell, your mimics and joy in La Traviata, and the romance and melancholy in Ne Me Quitte Pas? They were more than “more than perfect”..
AOI was as I wrote in your previous entry and you said in a short interview of yours, was something magical and the shows were so delightful to watch.. But seeing you having fun was.. Oh it’s the best of all. I understand how happy you are when I see your spins, steps, axels, quads.. You really do them with passion, joy.. Whatever if I start to explain what I feel during watching you, I won’t be able to wish you luck for TI!

I have to start saying that I had always been a fan of Plushenko, but this year you have won me over too and positioned yourself on the top of my list. In the end, for me is not only about the technique but about the passion and feeling you manage to “transmit” to spectators watching you, and you’re an ace at that.
I had the pleasure to watch you perform on Art on Ice in Lausanne last week, and I still cannot get it out of my head, you were superb. It was also great to see you bask in the love of the Swiss public which obviously adores you.
I am Spanish and have been having a hard time of dealing with a Swiss winter, the show was definitely the highlight of it and made me think I shouldn’t complain so much about being here!
So thanks! hope I will manage to continue seeing your perfomances somehow.

I have never before followed figure skating as close as I did this season, so I haven’t had any particular favourites of mine. Now I saw “William Tell”, “La traviata” and “Ne me quitte pas” and fell head over feet for your skating.
Thank you for the pleasure of seeing these programs. They seem to really suit you. I like how the step sequences fit into the programs that I hardly understand that they are elements. You seem to just do what the music tells you to do. And you do it very well; I adore the way you move on the ice. If I look on a clip with a fall, then I think “what a beautiful fall”. As always you had that incredible movement pattern in the Olympic “La traviata”, but I missed the spark that makes the program shine. I hope clips of shining “La traviata” (and other programs) from shows will be uploaded on Youtube, now we won’t be able to see it in competitions. I’m grateful that there is an ocean of old programs to watch since I haven’t followed you prior to this season.
I would say that you finished your competitive career on top, thinking about the well deserved GOEs for the last spin. Now I wish you all the best in the rest of your career. I count the days to Stockholm Ice (only eighteen left now).

Ja, wir haben uns auch sehr gefreut, Sie als Fahnenträger bei der Eröffnungsfeier zu sehen. Es freut mich auch, dass Sie so schöne Eindrücke von dieser Olympiade haben und nichts bedauern. Sie haben Recht, wir müssen immer dafür dankbar sein, was Gott uns gibt.
Es sind schon zwei Wochen seit dem Schluss der Olympiade vergangen, aber wir sind bis jetzt unter dem Eindruck dieses Ereignisses. Hat Ihnen die Abschlussfeier gefallen? Mich hat sie sehr beeindruckt. Es war sehr interessant zu sehen, wie unser bekannter Dirigent Valerij Gergijew sein Orkester, das auf dem Roten Platz in Moskau war, online geleitet hat. Auch Tatjana Nawka und Roman Kostomarow im Mondschein, am Ufer des Schwarzen Meeres – das war wirklich wunderschön!..
Es wird bei uns jetzt viel über die Ergebnisse dieser Olympiade gesprochen, vor allem weil Russland diesmal unerwartet wenig Goldmedaillen gewonnen hat. Man bespricht natürlich auch den Eiskunstlauf, am meisten den Sieg von Evan Lysacek und den 2. Platz von Jewgenij Plustschenko. Was mich betrifft, so ist für mich im Eiskunstlauf das Wort „Kunst“ am wichtigsten. Aber ich kann auch die Leute verstehen, die behaupten, der Eiskunstlauf sei kein Ballett auf dem Eis, sondern eine Sportart, deswegen sollen hier sportliche Leistungen, vor allem mehrfache Sprünge und Kombinationen begrüßt werden. In diesem Zusammenhang hat man Sie sehr oft erwähnt und dafür gelobt, dass Sie in Ihren Programmen beide Seiten harmonisch vereinigen und trotz vieler Verletzungen einen vierfachen Sprung machen.
Was das neue System der Einschätzung betrifft, so finde ich es sehr unklar und subjektiv (ich glaube, es ist noch subjektiver, als das alte). Ich kann zum Beispiel überhaupt nicht verstehen, wie Patrick Chan den 5. Platz belegt hat. Aber mit den Kampfrichtern darf man nicht streiten.
Ich weiß, dass Sie bald in die USA fliegen, um da an der Show “Thin Ice” teilzunehmen, also möchte ich Ihnen gute Gesundheit, viel Erfolg und auch viel Spaß wünschen. Hoffentlich ist es da schon ganz warm und Sie werden einen schönen Frühling genießen können. (Bei uns in Moskau schneit es immer noch).

I really can’t control my tears after reading it.
You can be very proud of yourself about the Vancouver experience. The fight was incredible and the day of the inauguration will always remain as one of the happiest in your life, because you were the one to represent the Swiss nation for the whole world.
It’s so great to know that you feel good and your injury has passed! It’s the most important news from you. So you can feel free of pain presenting your Art and have no fear expressing all your emotions and skills on the ice.
We all should only pray to have the possibility to see you on the ice for many years ahead. If we can say spasibo to Evgeni for pushing the figure skating to the very high technical level, there are no words to THANK YOU for pushing this sport to the extremely high artistic level, which probably will never be achieved by other sportsmen, because your talent is unique.
And I really feel jealous about your harmonious duet with Anastacia

You are such a sweet Prince to let us know how you are doing during what must be such a hectic time for you! I will never forget watching you wave that Swiss flag either. It brought tears of joy to my eyes, and I shivered all over with happiness. It was an incredible moment, to see you enter the stadium for your Third Olympics, after overcoming so much.
I want to thank you for your persistence, for fighting back tooth and nail, and for giving us so much to be proud of all this time you’ve been before our eyes. Merci, Stephane. Merci beaucoup! Merci, Peter and Salome! Merci, all the physiotherapists. It is so great to hear that your injury is GONE, with you stronger and healthier now. I am so very grateful, you’ve no idea. To know that you are proud and happy is such a good feeling. Thank you for letting us know that. I am grinning ear to ear right now, because you WILL continue to skate as long as your body allows you to!
Oh, wonderful wonderful wonderful! You skate the way my own soul would if it could materialize and boot up, and I am grateful to be living in The Lambiel Era. Long may you reign.

I have been checking out your “latest entries ” since the first day of March, hoping that you would have written another post. I am dissapointed that i hadn’t been the first one to comment…i was at the cinema :”>… Anyway, next time i’ll be… Well, nothing seems to bring me more joy than “it’s time to show the artist in me and I will continue to skate as long as my body allows me to. Figure skating is my life and I want to share that with all of you.” Well, don’t forget that you said that, we are all gonna stay in front of the TV’s admiring you, sit in the front raw at you shows, feel the strongest emotions while watching you competing… As long as you keep your promise you will have our gratest gratitude!

While you’re competing in Vancouver, there was an early morning in Europe. So I believe that this is a new sun rises over your life and career. I know, it’ll be one of the greatest journeys in your life.
Olympic Games – a special competition for every sportsmen. Every Olympian gets something more than medals, points, seconds. When I saw you during the gala show, I already knew that you understood what for you competed in Vancouver. After all it was worth it, right?
As Pierre de Frédy, Baron de Coubertin, founder of the International Olympic Committee and father of the modern Olympic Games, once said: “The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle.” Thank you for having shown such an exciting fight. One of the best I have ever seen in my life. And not least, I know. And after all you know it too.

This entire season, from Oberstdorf to Vancouver, was an unexpected gift to us. It was great to see you competing and to see Salome and Majda and Mr. Gruetter close to you. We were so lucky to see two new free programs, “La Traviata” and “Otono Porteno” as a competitive program. And, of course, “Willem Tell”. Thank you for giving all this to us.
I’m so glad to know that your injury is gone. Thanks to Marla and Majda and other people who helped you.
Thank you for fighting in Vancouver. You did everything you could at that moment that night. And the Swiss flag bearer seemed to be the happiest flag bearer at that ceremony.

J’ai adoré Art on Ice cette année. Un casting d’enfer sur moto, glace et dans les airs.
Anastacia est courageuse, belle, talentueuse, humble, drôle et sait communiquer avec le public. Elle ne cache pas ses émotions non plus. Le fait qu’elle a dû refaire sa chanson montre qu’elle n’avait pas envie que ça s’arrète. Toutes ces qualités tu les as aussi et ce n’est pas une surprise de vous voir si bien vous entendre tous les deux.
Ton parcours est phénoménal. Ton obstination dès tout petit, ta grâce et ton charme acquit avec la maturité. Tu as vraiment de quoi être fière de tout ça. Et bien sùr le patin est toute ta vie, ça ce voit quand tu es sur la glace. Tu rayonnes.
Une page se tourne, et te laisse libre d’accomplir tout ce que tu désire. Bien que je ne regrette pas mes nuits blanches à te regarder concourir, je me réjouis de voir les nombreux spectacles que tu va nous créer.

I was filing the old videos tonight and I happened to find out the one I burned a month before falling in love with your skating.That very one was a low resolution ‘you’re beautiful’, listing among all the other skaters in a ‘men’ folder. How was I supposed to know, that black haired lovely young boy would take me to such a long and rich journey, to do so many things out of my boundaries, and know better about life, about clinching every moment of joy, or sorrow.
I am so lucky to witness the orbit of a competitive skater like you, til your last medal, last compeition, last smile left on the competitive field. All memories will be safely folded in my secret box as we all move on.
Hope to see you some time, probably years later, I owe you a thanks and I wish to say that in person. Thank you Stéphane, for everything.
