However, on Sunday it was announced that they won the public vote, so they went into the finale as the second best ranked couple after Marie-France & Michael and before Shae-Lynn & John, Jamie & Patrice and Elena & David.

On Sunday it was the judges’ marks and the ballroom’s audience’s votes that counted. Due to some technical problems, the audience voting didn’t work (despite three successful rehearsals) and eventually only the judges’ marks could be taken into account.

Thus the final placement is as follows:

Marie-France Dubreuil & Michael Weiss

Shae-Lynn Bourne & John Zimmermann

Shizuka Arakawa & Stéphane Lambiel

Jamie Salé & Patrice Lauzon

Elena Berezhnaya & David Pelletier

We’d like to thank everybody who voted online for Shizuka and Stéphane after Friday’s show. They were given a hard time by the judges for not doing enough pair skating, but we’re very happy to know that so many people enjoyed their programs all the same. They’ve worked very hard and loved working together.

Stéphane has now returned to Switzerland and will be working on a new exhibition program with Salome Brunner this week. On Monday he will travel to Russia where he will skate in two exhibitions. From there he will go to Stockholm and Osaka for further shows.

Thin Ice

Yesterday, the first live show of ABC’s Thin Ice was aired. Shizuka and Stéphane performed very well to Magic Touch by Robin Thick and Mary J. Blidge. Shizuka even landed a 3Salchow-2Toeloop-2Loop combination and Stéphane did a 4 Toeloop. The three judges, Kristi Yamaguchi, Katarina Witt and Dick Button, liked it but criticized the fact that they didn’t skate much together. However, the story of the routine is to pass the magic touch to each other so they can perform their highlight individually.

The judges each gave them an 8. This places them 4th at the moment; this doesn’t include the votes from the TV viewers.

The ranking after the judges’ votes:

Marie-France Dubreuil & Michael Weiss

Shae-Lynn Bourne & John Zimmermann

Jamie Salé & Patrice Lauzon

Shizuka Arakawa & Stéphane Lambiel

Elena Berezhnaya & David Pelletier

The voting is over but the result won’t be revealed until the show on Sunday. The skaters will know only a few minutes before they go on the ice where they placed. The second show will be aired at 7pm EDT. Only the judges and the audience will be able to vote this time.

Stéphane would like to take this opportunity to thank his two fans who sent him the beautiful flowers last night. Merci beaucoup !

Stéphane Lambiel will dedicate himself to shows

When the Olympic Games ended, Stéphane Lambiel didn't take a single day off but performed in 8 shows for Art on Ice, this year's edition starring US singer Anastacia. A special encounter and magical moments shared with the audience in Zürich and Lausanne, wonderful experiences which could only enforce Stephane's growing desire to devote himself more and more to shows.

For the Swiss skater, one of the highlights of 2010 will without doubt be entering the Olympic stadium carrying the red and white flag for his national delegation. Although he didn't come back from Vancouver with the coveted gold medal, Lambiel is still very satisfied with his Olympic adventure and looks back positively on his personal route, made only more valuable by the obstacles that lay across it. “It was through these Olympics that I developed the discipline to take care of myself seriously”, he adds. “A year ago, I was hoping to be able to come back to the highest level. My only goal was to compete in Vancouver; I came back for the Olympics and for the Olympics only. It was my choice and I have absolutely no regrets. I’m extremely satisfied that I was able to fight as I did.” Indeed, in spite of a recurring adductor injury that forced him to retire from competing in October 2008, Stéphane announced his comeback in July 2009: he still had an Olympic dream for which he was ready to do anything, whatever his level of fitness. Thanks to his determination and the best possible team surrounding him, Lambiel enthusiastically took up the challenge he had set himself, and can now look at his brilliant career with pride, and also start thinking about the future.

“This chapter of my life is now behind me and I’m very happy and proud of everything I was able to fulfil during my career as a competitive skater. Now it’s time for me to show the rest of the world what I have inside me, it’s time to show the artist in me and I will continue to skate as long as my body allows me to.”

A new page awaits the young man who will celebrate his quarter-century in a couple of weeks. A time for Stéphane to seize the opportunity to follow a dream nearly as old as he is: to develop his talent, share it around the world, with no restraints due to rules and regulations, and this for the love of art only. “Figure skating is my life and I want to share that with all of you.” Let's therefore wish him a long life in show skating, for our very own pleasure.

Stéphane’s Official Collection

We are pleased to announce the upcoming arrival of Stéphane’s Official Collection! They will arrive in Zurich early morning of March 2 and together with Sarah and the rest of the Art on Ice cast they will start rehearsing for the shows the very same day. Art on Ice is premiering on March 4; there will be six shows in Zurich and two in Lausanne.

On March 11, Stéphane will fly to the US, where he will compete with Shizuka Arakawa in ABC’s Thin Ice, a pro competition for which twelve skaters are paired up and skate against each other. The couples will be judged by former figure skaters but also by the audience. The show will be aired March 19 and 21st.

At the end of March, Stéphane will skate in St. Petersburg (March 30) and Moscow (March 31). From there he will go straight to Stockholm for the second show of World’s Best on Ice (April 2). This is the start of a long list of shows in which Stéphane is going to participate, mainly in Germany, Eastern Europe and Asia. Please check his schedule as all shows will be added over the next few days and weeks.

Stéphane will not participate in the World Championships in Turin.

OLYMPICS: The hardest game of all

It was a long and hard battle…but eventually Stéphane didn't quite reach the podium… for only 0.51 points.

He struggled again with the quad toeloop right at the beginning of the programme. It should have been in a combination but Stéphane was not able to add the second jump. The next jump, the triple Lutz was shaky. He combined the second quad with a toeloop, but only a double one. He had to fight through every jump and it affected his whole performance. He was tense, unable to loosen up, it wasn’t the Stéphane we are used to and were expecting, and neither was it what he had hoped to show. It has been a big disappointment for him…

Stéphane placed third in the free programme (162.09) but the difference in points with Daisuke Takahashi (156.98) in the short programme was too big to make up: the Japanese skater who gave a wonderful performance despite a fall on the quad beat Stéphane by 0.51 points overall.

The winner of the Olympic gold medal is Evan Lysacek (167.37) who gave a good and clean performance although a lot less energetic than the short one.

To the surprise of many, Evgeni Plushenko (165.51) placed only second. Despite a quad-triple toeloop combination, he couldn’t hold on to his title due to some flaws in the jumps. Lysacek and Plushenko received the same component score, but Lysacek eventually beat Plushenko in the technical score.

A small consolation is the fact that they were rightfully beaten in the component score by both Daisuke Takahashi (84.50) and Stéphane (83.60).

The final results can be seen HERE and protocols are available HERE.

Thank you, Stéphane, for fighting so hard! We’re all looking forward to see you at the exhibition on the 27th where you will blow us away again…

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish Sarah the best of luck for her competition next week. She’ll be skating on the 23rd and 25th. Good luck!
